Biographies of Evans and Martinez Don Evans A longtime friend of George W. Bush, Don Evans, 54. A Texas native, he was the chair of the Bush campaign and Bush's national finance chairman. As Bush's chief fund-raiser since 1978, Evans raised money for Bush's unsuccessful race for Congress 1978 and both of his gubernatorial runs in 1994 and 1998. He is the longtime chairman and CEO of Tom Brown Inc., a Midland, Texas based oil and gas company. Evans received a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Texas in 1969 and an MBA from UT four years later. Mel Martinez Mel Martinez, 54, co-chaired Bush's campaign in Florida and is currently Chairman for Florida's Orange County Board of Commissioners. Martinez obtained his J.D. in 1973 from Florida State University of Law, and his B.A. in 1969 from Florida State University. Martinez has been on the board of directors for United American Bank, the Alliance Chairman, President of the Orlando Utilities Commission, on the Board of Trustees for United Arts, Chairman of the Orlando Housing Authority, Vice President of the Catholic Social Services, Coach for the Delany Park Little League and Camp Counselor at Camp WEWA.
